When: Sunday, May 21, 2017, 9 AM – Noon. Registration and T-Shirt pick-up begins at 9:00 AM.
What: CakeWalk is a family friendly, noncompetitive 5K walk that concludes with a fun festival of kid’s activities including field games, face painting, live music, crafts, a family raffle, free refreshments and more.
Why: CakeWalk is Birthday Wishes’ only fundraising event and reflects the grassroots nature of our organization and the importance of kids helping kids. Every step taken and every dollar raised by walkers helps ensure that children impacted by homelessness will be able to celebrate their birthday.

Our goal this year is $200,000. These funds are raised by our walkers, their donors, generous corporate sponsors and the CakeWalk raffle.

Q. Is fundraising required to participate in the event? Can I just donate and participate?
A. CakeWalk is our signature fundraising event; although not required, an individual’s fundraising goal is $100 and a team’s is $500. You registration fee goes towards the cost of the walk and festival, the fundraising goes to support our On-Site & Birthday-in-a-Box Program.

Q. If I can’t be at CakeWalk on event day, can I still participate?
A. Yes! You can participate as a virtual walker and help fundraise for our cause!
Q. How do I start or join a team?
A. First you must register as an individual. Once you’ve completed your individual registration you will have the option of starting a team or joining a team.
Q. Do I need to register my child?
A. Children over 3 year of age must register to participate and receive a T-shirt.
Q. What should I expect on event day?
A. Once you get to Mount Ida College, you’ll be directed to the check in table where you will receive your t-shirt! Davey the Clown will be engaging the crowd and volunteers will be selling raffle tickets and Birthday Wishes swag. After the walk has ended, the festival begins! We will have lots of food, games, and activities. Raffle items will be sold for the duration of the event and winners will be chosen at about 11:15am. Q. Do I need to pre-register?
A. We highly encourage you to pre-register so you have the opportunity to fundraise, and we know how many people to expect. If you have a last minute addition to your team, or a friend that would like to join, we will be accepting day-of registrations with a $40 registration fee.
Q. What should I wear event day?
A. We suggest wearing comfortable walking clothes and sneakers. We’ll be there rain or shine, but if there is inclement weather we will be indoors!
Q. What if there is inclement weather?
A. The walk portion will still be outside, but the festival will be held inside the gymnasium.
Q. Can I bring my dog to the event?
A. While Mount Ida College maintains an animal friendly environment, the College is both a workplace and residence for many individuals, and, as such, the welfare of the entire community has to be considered. The College, therefore, has established a no dog policy for campus events.
